how it all beganEugene Wine Cellars was conceived by Bruce Biehl in 1998, and in 1999 the “Urban Winery” was established in the Whiteaker neighborhood near downtown Eugene, Oregon. The first vintages were bottled and labeled at the winery in the fall of 2001. Bruce has been growing wine grapes all over the state since his beginnings in the fall of 1978. His company AREA Inc. has been developing and managing hundreds of vineyard operations for other growers, wineries and our label ever since then. The b2 wine label originated in 2004 and represents the initials of the three siblings Bruce, Brad, and Beverly Biehl. The Biehl brothers' shared interest in agriculture, science, and math inspired the phrase EWC = b2, and we continue that passion with a global appreciation for the wine and culinary cultures that encompass the lives of so many around the world. In 2008 we opened our first wine bar in Eugene, Oregon and with that we have gone full circle with the concept, from “farm to fork”. Using fruit we access primarily from vineyards managed by Bruce's vineyard management company AREA Inc., we have focused our attention primarily on Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. We also offer a white wine blend and a red wine blend under the label “Recess”. The Recess label was created to acknowledge the many years our family spent in the classrooms as teachers, and the awesome work of teachers around the world. Our winemaking team is committed to old school winemaking practices in the cellar so that we can express the vintage, terroir, and description of the grape variety so the consumer can have a complete sensory experience with each glass. From the extended families of Eugene Wine Cellars, thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy our hand crafted wines. |
